Akatherm pioneers in PE/PP piping systems

From contractor to manufacturer
Since its foundation in the early 60's under the name Kumefa (Kunststof en Metaal Fabriek), Akatherm has always been a pioneer in PE/PP pipe systems that transformed the business model from prefabrication and installation through trading and subcontracted production to finally own manufacturing and marketing. In 1989 Aljo van Dijk (one of the sons of the founder of Dyka plastic pipe systems) established the present injection moulding plant.

A growing network

An international distribution network was developed, including partnerships with many present group companies. Ultimately in 1998 the cooperation with various companies resulted in Akatherm, including the sales companies in Germany and Belgium becoming part of Glynwed Pipe systems. The acquisition of GPS in 2001 by the present Aliaxis group opened additional growth opportunities, especially for drainage products.

Advanced mould and process technology

First generation fittingsAkatherm produces with a large number of automated moulding machines a growing volume of PE/PP fittings and accessories for both drainage and pressure applications. These fittings are produced with advanced moulds, securing high quality products with economics. With modern mould flow techniques the mould design is optimised before construction.
Furthermore the production plant is equipped with turning lathes and welding equipment in order to finish and customize products if required.
Akatherm is certified according to ISO-9001 and ISO-14001. Furthermore an extensive number of national products and system approvals further secure the highest quality standards.

From product to system innovationCompany history

Innovative ideas have always been a guiding principle in the development of Akatherm. Initially these ideas were based on material and jointing technology. For instance special welding methods (compact-welding) to build branches from pipe, snap-sockets to create pull-tight rubber-ring joints and the evolution of the Akafusion electrofusion system to become leading in its field.
Meanwhile the system-approach has driven innovation more towards specific application technologies like the Akavent aerator concept for high-rise and special Akasison siphonic roof outlets for large roof spans.
For this purpose Akatherm has built up an expertise and training resource (Akademy) aimed at optimising the hydraulic performance of specialist drainage systems. This know-how is shared with other group companies and also is the input for the Akacad design software, enabling consulting engineers and contractors to easily draw and calculate drainage systems.

Being connected in all directions

Taking its origins in a small country and having limited resources, Akatherm has always been oriented by nature to creating partnerships with other companies in order to exploit the mutual resources in the best possible way. This has resulted in an extensive network in all directions. Moreover Akatherm is working closely together with several group companies on development projects in order to reach innovative, more harmonised and global offering.
